Upgrading to energy-efficient appliances? Maximize your rebate

(NC) If you could save money and reduce your eco-footprint, why wouldn’t you?

The good news is that it has become more affordable. A new appliance can help reduce your energy use by up to 60 per cent versus standard models, plus deliver long-term savings from reduced energy usage.

A new government incentive makes upgrading even more attractive. The Energy Savings Rebate program funded by the Government of Canada offers up to $500 on select energy-efficient home appliances.

If you’re considering taking advantage of these incentives, here are a few things to consider:

  1. Know which products are eligible. This rebate program is all about encouraging Ontarians to make environmentally responsible purchasing decisions to reduce energy use, save money and address climate change. To take advantage, keep your eye out for Energy Star certified products.
  2. Do your research. Appliances have advanced dramatically over the past few years, so there is a lot to consider before making your purchase. Explore your options, read product reviews online and measure your space so that your appliances fit just right.
  3. Choose an accredited retailer. Not all stores in the province offer these rebates. Best Buy is one of a few select retailers accredited to offer point of sale rebates of up to 25 per cent off the price of your new energy-efficient appliance.
